Loose Diamond Cut

The cutting process:
As we said before, the name of the game is brilliance. So here are the some aspects that matter most. As you see in the diagram, the critical parts of a diamond are the Table, Crown, Girdle, Pavilion, Culet and the way all of these parts add up to make the whole. The diamonds Crown, Girdle and Pavilion are parts of the diamond that must be faceted, and doing so will cause light to reflect and increase the sparkle of the stone. These facets must be arranged in a pattern that displays fine symmetry in order for the diamond to emit light. If the facets are off center and not as symmetrical as they should be, the diamond will have less sparkle and be less pleasing to the eye.

The Bottom Line: How the experts know…
A real diamond expert uses the oldest method to tell the difference between a true piece of art, and an undesirable stone, His Eyes.
If the stone sparkles and sings then it’s a winner, if it’s dull and lacks brilliance then it will be rejected. When anyone looks at a thing of beauty they know, and so will you. In the same way that you don’t need anyone to tell you that something is beautiful, when you see a well cut diamond you’ll know.

Loose Cut Diamonds of Different Shape

Loose Cut Diamonds come in almost every possible shape that one can imagine and below are some examples. As you can see there are many options when buying a diamond. The most traditional and popular choice when buying a diamond is a round diamond.

Can’t Decide on Shape?
If you are having trouble deciding which shape to go with, you are not alone. Many of our customers have difficulty when it comes to picking the perfect diamond. If you are still undecided, Our Loose Cut Diamond experts are available to guide you, and help you buy the perfect diamond for that special someone.

What Is a Well Cut Diamond:
As we said before, what every diamond expert looks for in a diamond is one that “sings” and is sparkling and bright.
Below you’ll notice that if a diamond is too shallow or too deep, the light does not create the effect of scintillation that is essential for a diamond to sparkle.
In addition there are commonly agreed upon notions of what to look for in a (Good to Ideal) round brilliant diamond as far as cut is concerned:
Loose Cut Diamond Depth
Above we see that the way a diamond is cut effects its appearance.
Table Percentage: 53-61%
Crown Angle:33-36 Degrees
Girdle Thickness: Thin - Slightly thick
Depth Percentage:59-64%
Culet Size:None - Very small
Symmetry:Good - Excellent
Polish:Good – Excellent

What Kind of Cut Should You Consider?
At A&W Diamonds we realize that some people just want a good value for their dollar, while others want perfection.
Either way, A&W Diamonds will help you get a diamond that will make the giving of this gift the most memorable occasion of your lives.
In order to increase your knowledge regarding diamond cuts, below you will find a brief description of each cut category for diamonds. This will help you understand what we mean when we describe the cut of a diamond during your search thru our Inventory.

Good Proportions:
Diamonds with “Good” proportions are the most widely sold in the world. They represent the majority of diamonds that are manufactured and have mass appeal by diamond experts and consumers because of the following reasons.

1. They are reasonably priced.
2. Diamonds with good proportions are well cut, only slightly less than a fine cut.
3. When they are in a setting, even experts have difficulty telling the difference.
4. They still shine and sparkle very nicely.

Premium Proportions:
Here we are speaking of a diamond with proportions that are slightly less than ideal, but better than good. About 15% of all loose diamonds are cut to Premium proportions.

Ideal Proportions:
When one says that a diamond has ideal proportion, it means that each individual part is shaped perfectly in relation to the stone as a whole. These stones are in the top 3-5% of all diamonds that are cut today. Achieving this ideal state is the result of special attention to cutting details and making it a priority when manufacturing a stone.
As shown in the diagram below (insert image for good, fine, premium, ideal) the most basic way to judge proportions are the areas on a diamond such as the table, crown, girdle and pavilion.

Note:
At present there are no universally accepted figures for what is ideal or premium in fancy shape diamonds, but there are generally accepted ideas.

Save on Cut:
When you really have your heart set on a specific size, color, and clarity, one option for you is to bend a little bit on the diamonds cut.
In other words, if your budget is tight, and you still want a pretty diamond, then going with a Good cut, may be a way to save and still get the diamond you really want.

How much can you save purchasing a Good Cut diamond?
The difference between an Ideal or Premium Cut diamond and a Good Cut diamond can be as much as 20% and for that reason it can make lots of sense to go with a Good Cut.
